Eagle Scout Recommendation Letters

Reference letters are an important part of determining the qualifications of a Boy Scout for advancement to the rank of Eagle Scout. If you have been solicited as a reference by a candidate from Troop 139, your letter should be addressed as follows:

Dear Eagle Scout Character Board

Please sign the back sealed flap of your mailing envelope and address the envelope as follows:

Duplicate Letters

Eagle Scout Candidate Recommendation Letters are deemed confidential and are destroyed after the Eagle Scout Board of Review Committee has read them. We therefore suggest that you consider giving the Eagle Scout Candidate a blind copy of your recommendation letter as a keepsake.

Content

Eagle Scout recommendation / reference letters should specify the length and nature of the relationship with the Eagle candidate. Letters should provide some indication of the candidate's leadership ability, if known. Of particular interest is the character of the candidate using the Scout Law as a measure. To that end, submitters are encouraged to acquaint themselves with the following Scouting information:

  • Scout Oath & Law

  • Eagle Scout factsheet
